Rahul (Shahrukhan) is a 40-year-old bachelor who lives in Mumbai. His parents died in a car accident and were brought up by his grandfather and grandmother.
One day, his grandfather suddenly dies and finds himself forced to embark on a journey to the small town of Tamil Nadu to fulfill the wishes of his grandfather, who before his death asked for the ashes of his body to be scattered over the holy waters of the Rameshwaram River.
During his trip, he meets a South Indian girl named Minama (Deepika Padekun) who belongs to a distinctive southern family but has just escaped from her family, who wants to marry her from someone she does not love.
Over time, love begins to grow between Rahul and Minama until she decides to help her cope with her family and complete his journey.
